Victory Living Programs' Clients Explain Their Definition of Independence in New Video

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 23, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —  Victory Living Programs has turned the microphone and video camera over to their most powerful advocates - the individuals they serve. In their newest promotional video entitled, "Independence Defined," Victory Living Programs invites 13 of their clients to define the word independence in their own, unedited, unfiltered terms.

"We really wanted to break the mold with this video and provide a very 'real' encounter of those we serve," said Bobbi Wigand, Executive Director. "Individuals with disabilities are rarely portrayed in a natural, unedited setting that makes it easy for them to express themselves - their true selves... and that is what we wanted to be able to portray in this new video."

The video offers a vignette of the clients answering one simple question: What does independence mean to you? "I like being an independent and having my freedoms," said Jay, one of Victory Living Programs' clients, as he explained his personal meaning of independence. "It's a very fun life, and I appreciate it," he continued.

Some of the other clients explain how they have experienced freedom through various activities including, being able to live in their own apartments, maintain employment and manage personal responsibilities such as cleaning and budgeting, and having the freedom to choose how they spend their free time.

"Hearing the individuals we serve articulate just how meaningful their level of independence is as a result of our programs, their jobs and community activities was an eye-opening experience," said Wigand. "We are excited to share this honest portrayal of individuals with disabilities with the public."

Funding for the video was provided by General Parts International, a long-time sponsor of Victory Living Programs. The video was produced by Fort Lauderdale based C&I Studios. To see the video, visit the Victory Living Programs website or  Victory Living Programs' YouTube Channel.
