Accelerating “Lab-to-Fab” Progress: SEMICON Europa 2015 Innovations

DRESDEN, Germany - Sep 24, 2015 - SEMICON Europa 2015 will address the many challenges of transitioning new products, processes, equipment, and materials from R&D environments to full deployment in high-volume manufacturing. SEMI, the global association serving the electronics supply chain, is leading forums to speed lab-to-fab transitions. SEMICON Europa exposition and conference, taking place 6-8 October in Dresden, brings more than 400 exhibitors and over 5,000 trade visitors from around the world.

Embedded systems, sensors and actuators are fundamental components of the electronics of the future.  Linking "More than Moore" and "More Moore," European companies are in a strong competitive position. The development of Smart systems increases the industryÂ’s need for more dialogue and cooperation along the value chain. With innovation and collaboration the basis for the successful development in the semiconductor industry in Europe, SEMICON Europa 2015 focuses on the increasing integration of different technologies contributing to innovation throughout the world.

In the Science Park and at the booths of Europe's leading locations in the Allée des Clusters, research institutes and universities will exhibit. At the French cluster Minalogic booth, CEA-Leti and others are exhibiting. At the Dutch DSP Valley booth, imec is exhibiting. The Fraunhofer Group for Microelectronics is also exhibiting with its own booth, demonstrating a fully-developed research network.

Young high-tech companies introduce their new products on 5-6 October during the HighTech Venture Days. The best of more than a hundred candidates from all over Europe were selected to participate. In addition, 32 start-ups and growth companies will present at the Innovation Village to potential investors, industry partners and customers. SEMICON Europa 2015 offers a platform that enables startups to connect with funding sources and attract new customers and partners in the industry.

A special highlight of SEMICON Europa 2015 is the Fraunhofer Demo Day on 8 October. Under the motto "We make the invisible," members of the Fraunhofer Group will present research findings - on topics ranging from 3D wafer-level system integration to ultra-thin capacitors and from integrated micro-cameras to energy self-sufficient sensor nodes for the IoT.
