ARLINGTON, Va. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — April 12, 2016JEDEC® Solid State Technology Association, the global leader in the development of standards for the microelectronics industry, today announced the recent launch of its first task group based in China. Linked with JEDEC’s influential JC-14 Committee for Quality & Reliability, the new task group was first proposed by JEDEC member Dr. Huifang Jiao from Huawei Technologies, and approved by the committee and the JEDEC Board of Directors. The task group’s objective is to establish a platform to assist Chinese companies with their participation in this international standards development organization. Interested companies are invited to contact JEDEC’s representative in China, Mr. Xianmin Xi, at xianmin@jedec.org for more information about the task group and its next meeting in June 2016.

At its first meeting, hosted by Huawei in Shenzhen on March 18, approximately 40 participants from major semiconductor and ICT manufacturers were in attendance, including: Haier, Gree, TCL, SMIC, the China Electronic Product Reliability and Environmental Testing Research Institute, and The Computing Institute of the China Academy of Sciences.

The task group welcomed Mr. Thomas Li, Director, Standardization and Industry Department, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd, who expressed commitment to embracing international standards and pledged active participation in international standards development organizations as a matter of corporate policy. Mr. Li stated, “Huawei is dedicated to the development of international standards through our longstanding participation in JEDEC, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to work with JC-14 to involve many more Chinese companies in the standards process.”

Engineers presented proposals on modifying existing JEDEC standards and developing new standards they believe would be beneficial to the industry. In addition, participants expressed support for establishing the group as a forum for exchanging views and information about common technical concerns.

“JEDEC has invested nearly fifteen years in engaging Chinese companies and government entities in the international standards development process, and the formation of this task group is a significant milestone,” said John Kelly, JEDEC President. He added, “We are delighted to partner with member company Huawei in order to introduce more Chinese companies to the benefits of open standards.”
