MakeVR Pro Brings CAD-Based Precision Tools To 3D Modeling In VR For HTC VIVE

Vive Studios and Sixense's award winning creativity app launches enhanced version built for professional makers and enterprise users

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 7, 2017 — (PRNewswire) —  Vive Studios™, the virtual reality (VR) content development and publishing initiative from HTC VIVE™, and Sixense, a global leader in motion tracking and VR content, today launched MakeVR Pro. The VR content creation experience houses an industry-standard professional CAD engine that enables advanced 3D object modeling within VR. MakeVR Pro features new precision functionality for creators that increase accuracy and detail of 3D projects, helping meet the needs of professional 3D designers. MakeVR Pro is now available on Viveport ( www.viveport.com) for $39.99.

MakeVR Pro adds new tools to MakeVR for the precision alignment of objects using grids and rulers, jigs, snapping, surface tracking, and mirroring. These tools allow anyone, regardless of their age or experience level, to create solid-model content with positional and rotational accuracy in their virtual workshop, fulfilling the demand for such control and opening new channels of creativity. This precision, CAD-based, content creation is what separates MakeVR Pro from other immersive modeling, sculpting, and painting apps. The expanded level of control that the precision tools provide showcase virtual reality as a natural, powerful, and progressive medium for 3D object modeling. In-app tutorials guide the user through the simple process of learning this new functionality. MakeVR Pro bridges the gap between virtual and real workshops with the ability to export standard object files for 3D printing. Furthermore, MakeVR Pro has direct links from within the app to connect with Shapeways ( www.shapeways.com), the online 3D printing service.

"This new layer of precision, combined with Vive's room-scale technology, paves the way for MakeVR Pro to become the primary 3D object modeling tool for professionals," said Joel Breton, GM of Vive Studios. "Users can now manipulate objects with increased precision to take advantage of the fidelity and space that VR allows, much like the way carpenters and machinists work in their real-world shops."

"While still a simple and intuitive solution to use, we wanted to ensure that MakeVR Pro provides anyone the ability to create content with precision and accuracy," said Amir Rubin, Co-founder and CEO of Sixense. "Our collaboration with Vive Studios has made for a professional-grade creativity experience that provides a powerful yet easy way, for people ranging from 3D print enthusiasts to industry professionals, to build precision models while immersed in a virtual environment."

Launched on Viveport in March, MakeVR is a 3D content creation experience with a natural style of interaction delivering 3D object modeling in VR to makers and designers of all skill levels. With an intuitive interface based on natural two-handed motions, MakeVR takes full advantage of Vive's room-scale VR to give creators an immersive virtual space to explore and design objects like never before. Experienced makers and modelers can harness the efficiency of MakeVR's 3D multi-touch interface to create objects in ways that are more powerful and expressive than using traditional 2D interfaces like the mouse and keyboard.
