International TechneGroup (ITI) selected to present three sessions at DMC 2018

Milford, OH November 26, 2018 – International TechneGroup (ITI), the global leader providing reliable interoperability, validation and migration solutions for product data and related systems, announces their participation in three presentations at the upcoming Defense Manufacturing Conference (DMC) in Nashville, TN, December 3 – 6, 2018.

The first ITI presentation occurs on Tuesday, December 4th at 1:30pm in the Advanced Manufacturing Enterprise (AME) track. ITI’s Rendell Hughes will present Manufacturing Process Driven Design (MPDD) – Moving Manufacturing to the Left, along with project partners Patrick Mulloy of Honeywell Inc, and Jeffrey Shubrooks of Raytheon Co. The MPDD project, which was nominated for the 2018 ManTech DMC award, seeks to “ move manufacturing to the left” by injecting analytically generated information about manufacturing, manufacturing alternatives and cost into the product development process as early as possible to provide/ensure ample time to make changes to design.

In total twenty different commercial CAD, CAM, and CAE tools were integrated by MPDD, as well as several internally developed tools. MPDD interactions allow for teams of engineers across disciplines to simultaneously engage in the product development process and move information from engineering to manufacturing (left to right). The interactions enable information to move from manufacturing to engineering (right to left), thus moving manufacturing influence to the left. The presentation focuses on results and findings from the final year of MPDD development/integration activity.

On Thursday, December 6th at 9:30 am ITI will be featured in the 3D Digital Data Exchange Project presentation by Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). NAVAIR faces significant challenges related to accepting and managing data in a Model Based Environment (MBE). The challenges include initial verification/validation of data received, conducting engineering review and analysis concurrently, and maintaining configuration control to effectively support aircraft all of which can result in acquisition lifecycle delays and sustainment issues. The 3D Data Exchange Project seeks to rapidly alleviate these challenges.

NAVAIR requires the ability to create Technical Data Packages (TDPs) containing native CAD data, derivatives of the native CAD data (STEP and 3DPDF), validations of those derivatives, metadata from various sources (principally PLM), and manifests of content and transmittal data. “The TDPs created by NAVAIR consist of hundreds of thousands of associated files,” commented Asa Trainer, Vice President of Product Operations at ITI. “It’s too laborious for NAVAIR to migrate these files manually and it’s critical that the file associativity not break during migration. ITI was uniquely qualified to implement solutions that satisfied NAVAIR’s requirements. Our DEXcenter solution automates the TDP process and our CADIQ solution verifies CAD model quality at all stages of the product lifecycle.”

The final session of the AME track at 3:15pm on Thursday will include a presentation by ITI’s Chief Strategist, Michael Lemon, titled Gaps, trends, and opportunities in the Advanced Manufacturing Enterprise. Technology trends have the potential to significantly impact the process for Aerospace and Defense organizations. However, an understanding of how to prioritize, harness and measure the impact of these technologies remains elusive. This 20-minute presentation offers case studies that illustrate gaps between promising technology pilots and realization in production. Attendees will learn how to measure and demonstrate impact to process, to prioritize the deployment of new technologies.
