AMD Introduces World’s Fastest High-End Desktop Processors With 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper Family: Delivering Unmatched Performance With No Compromises

Specifications of 3rd generation Ryzen Threadripper processors as of October 29th, 2019. As of October 8, 2019, the AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper processors can deliver 133GB/s of concurrent device bandwidth. Intel's competing high-end desktop processor, the Core i9-10980XE, can deliver up to 52GB/s of concurrent device bandwidth. 52/133=2.55 times the bandwidth on 3rd gen AMD Threadripper. The desktop platform that previously offered the most bandwidth on desktop was the 2nd Gen Ryzen Threadripper processor, which could deliver up to 128 GB/s of bandwidth. CPK-14

Testing by AMD performance labs on 10/07/2019 comparing an AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3970X and AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3960X vs. Intel© Core™ i9-9980XE in the Cinebench R20 nT benchmark test. Results may vary. CPK-02

Testing by AMD performance labs on 10/11/2019 using an AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3970X processor, Intel© Core™ i9-9980XE and Intel Core i9-9920X. Results may vary. CPK-11

Testing by AMD performance labs on 10/11/2019 using an AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3960X processor, AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3970X processor, Intel© Core™ i9-9980XE and Intel Core i9-9920X. Chromium and Unreal Engine compiled in Windows® 10 with Ninja Compiler using Visual Studio 2017 header files. Android 10 compiled according to https://source.android.com/setup/build/initializing. Phoronix PTS OpenBenchmarking.org results obtained via CentOS 7. Results may vary. CPK-20

Performance per watt testing conducted by AMD performance labs as of 10/18/2019. Relative performance per watt evaluated by dividing Cinebench R20 nT score by total system power. Watts per core approximated by dividing system wall power by core count(s). Products tested: AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3960X, AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 3970X, Intel Core i9-9980XE. Results may vary. 7 Max boost for AMD Ryzen PRO Processors is the maximum frequency achievable by a single core on the processor running a bursty single-threaded workload. Max boost will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to: thermal paste; system cooling; motherboard design and BIOS; the latest AMD chipset driver; and the latest OS updates. GD-150

Though both are often measured in watts, it is important to distinguish between thermal and electrical watts. Thermal wattage for processors is conveyed via thermal design power (TDP). TDP is a calculated value that conveys an appropriate thermal solution to achieve the intended operation of a processor. Electrical watts are not a variable in the TDP calculation. By design, electrical watts can vary from workload to workload and may exceed thermal watts. GD-109
