Invention Machine Announces Availability of TechOptimizer 4.0 and CoBrain 2.6

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2002-- Invention Machine ( has expanded its lead in computer-aided innovation with the release today of TechOptimizer(TM) 4.0.

The Intellectual Asset Management solutions company also announced the availability of CoBrain(TM) 2.6, a knowledge-mining solution that captures and shares intellectual assets across the enterprise.

The TechOptimizer innovation solution is used by R&D professionals to define and solve engineering problems during the conceptual design stages of innovation, including in areas of new product design and development, product enhancement and process improvement. Once an R&D problem has been properly defined and potential solutions are generated, users can employ the next-generation semantic processing engine in CoBrain to find concrete answers to the problem by searching intelligence from corporate resources, the Internet and worldwide Patent Office databases.

"TechOptimizer 4.0 and CoBrain 2.6 help leading R&D companies achieve breakthrough innovation and make full use of existing resources as they strive to optimize their engineering systems and processes in results-driven development environments," said Mieko Kusano, Director of Product Management at Invention Machine. "Enhancements built into the current versions of these products provide users with more R&D firepower and also make the products easier to use."

TechOptimizer 4.0

TechOptimizer empowers breakthrough and iterative innovation, enhances problem solving by using the proven product-development methodologies TRIZ and Value Engineering and provides access to the world's largest, commercially available knowledge base of scientific effects. TechOptimizer 4.0 enhances the innovation modules, adds additional scientific content and improves the ease of use.

The Scientific Effects Knowledge Base in TechOptimizer facilitates knowledge sharing across industries through the abstracted representation of technical systems and concepts, and stimulates out-of-the-box thinking by pooling knowledge from different disciplines. With the addition of more than 900 new scientific effects, examples and animations, the Scientific Effects library in version 4.0 now consists of more than 8,400 physical processes and their practical industry applications.

"Tech Optimizer answers the question `Where is technology going?'," said Jim Bradley Ph.D., PE, Master Black Belt & TRIZ Specialist at International Truck & Engine Corporation. "The feature that differentiates Tech Optimizer is the effects module. It helps engineers test how elements will act in real world situations. The effects module also helps engineers understand where the problem is coming from. Frequently time is wasted when engineers address and attempt to solve an issue that is related to, but not at the heart of the problem. In other words, engineers want to avoid solving the wrong problems."

Invention Machine offers TechOptimizer as part of a complete software and services solution focused on helping enterprises innovate. The company offers educational and consulting services to customers, including the TRIZ Series and the Innovation Master Program. In addition, enterprises use TechOptimizer as an integrated component within their Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) process.

"I have used Invention Machine's TechOptimizer and its predecessor, IMLab, as part of my teaching and consulting work since 1995," said Ellen Domb, PhD., editor of The Triz Journal. "Each new release has added significant power and functionality. I continuously test all available software products that support TRIZ, and each time I select Invention Machine's products as the ones that give my clients and me the most extensive databases and the most flexible problem-solving structures. The embedded tutorials make it very easy for people to learn it, use it, and return to it after working other aspects of the problem."

CoBrain 2.6
