Topcon and Mandli Communications to present at SPAR

3D mobile mapping for highway management presentation

LIVERMORE, Calif. — February 01, 2010 — Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) and Mandli Communications, Inc. will present a seminar on ‘Building a 3D Mobile Mapping Vehicle for Highway Management Applications,’ at the SPAR 2010 conference.

The conference will be held at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center in Houston, Texas. The presentation is scheduled for February 9.

The joint presentation by Topcon and Mandli will focus on the core systems involved in mobile mapping data collection. Topcon will detail the functions and operation of their own core positioning components for mobile collection systems. This includes the IP-S2, which consists of a GNSS receiver, an IMU and wheel odometry. Mandli will present the point-of-view of an OEM working with their components, and how they can be integrated into an existing platform.

Richard Rybka, Topcon’s IP-S2 mobile mapping specialist and partner development manager, said, “The presentation discusses the details of a highway management application, but much can be learned by anyone who is interested in collecting accurate data quickly and safely for any asset management application. The integration of LIDAR, IMU, GPS and 360 degree photographs is a revolutionary change in field data collection that has the potential to save companies a lot of money in their data acquistion efforts.”

Ray Mandli, president of the company, said, “We have verified through rigorous field testing that the Topcon system meets our requirements for measuring precision positioning of assets. We plan to integrate the product into several of our projects in the 2010 collection year.”

Topics that will be highlighted at the SPAR 2010 conference include 3D Laser scanning, Mobile Surveying & Mapping, LIDAR, CAD/GIS Integration, Security Planning & Forensics, and Asset Management.
