PHOENIX, AZ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Oct 26, 2010 -- This week GeOasis, a Phoenix-based eco-friendly energy solutions company, hosted a tour for the AIA (American Institute of Architects) to highlight their new geothermal cooling and heating systems.
Installed in a historic home in the downtown Alvarado District, GeOasis showcased their groundbreaking geothermal systems to a crowd of 50 architects and Arizona AIA members on September 17, 2010. Tour participants gained knowledge of the challenges in this particular project and the other installations completed by GeOasis over the last 12 months and then learned how to apply the new technology to future projects.
As the crowd walked through one of the oldest homes in downtown Phoenix, GeOasis representatives detailed how geothermal heating and air conditioning changed the home owner's life during hot Arizona summers, and how it is improving the entire energy system of the house year round. On average, geothermal technology allows a homeowner to lower their energy costs significantly (usually over 30%) and reduce their carbon footprint.
"We are glad to see a strong interest from the local architecture community. Alternative energy technologies are increasingly important, especially to arid desert climates like the Southwest, where conventional HVAC systems are not as effective, by comparison to geothermal and solar systems," remarked Diana Smith, AIA AZ Chapter Coordinator after the recent tour.
The 1930's Tudor style home (12 rooms on 6000 sq ft and three stories), listed on the historic preservation site of the City of Phoenix, was not livable during the blistering Arizona summers due to the cooling challenges. The owner could not achieve temperatures lower than 86 degrees on the first floor, with temperatures above 100 degrees in the second and third floors. After installing the new geothermal hybrid system the owner can now reside in his historic home year round.
In addition to achieving desired seasonal temperatures inside the home and reducing costs, one other major goal for GeOasis was to keep the original historic character in tact while removing all eyesores of prior energy systems.
