The eight-film line-up encompasses a diverse mix of tentpoles and star-driven event films including: Now You See Me 3, the third installment of Lionsgate's blockbuster heist franchise; the Lionsgate/CBS Films action drama Patriots Day, starring Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon and Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons in the suspenseful story of the manhunt that followed the Boston Marathon bombing; and the Summit Entertainment/Black Label action drama No Exit, starring Josh Brolin and Miles Teller in the true saga of the firefighters who battled one of the most dangerous wildfires in history.
"We are proud to bring to our distribution partners our deepest and most diverse Cannes slate of critically acclaimed, commercially exciting films ever," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman and International COO Andrew Kramer. "Our portfolio of blockbuster franchises, big tentpole movies and star-driven event films showcases one of the greatest collections of creative talent in our studio's history, and we believe that our slate will have tremendous resonance with global audiences for years to come."
The Company's Cannes roster also includes: the Lionsgate/Hasbro film My Little Pony: The Movie, an adaptation of the cherished multigenerational global brand starring Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt and Kristin Chenoweth; Lionsgate/CBS Films' Lorenzo di Bonaventura-produced action film American Assassin, featuring Academy Award nominee Michael Keaton and based on Vince Flynn's best-selling book series that has sold 25 million copies worldwide; and the prestige drama Wonder, from producers Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman, starring Academy Award winner Julia Roberts and Room's Jacob Tremblay in a poignant and uplifting coming-of-age story based on the massive New York Times bestseller.
Another slate entry, the thriller Marrowbone, reunites executive producer J.A. Bayona, producer Belen Atienza and writer-director Sergio G. Sanchez, the creative team behind A Monster Calls, The Orphanage and the box office smash The Impossible, in the story of four children who hide from the world in a farm that holds a terrible secret. Rounding out the Cannes line-up, China's first 3D motion capture film, the epic fantasy adventure L.O.R.D., is writer-director Guo Jingming's follow-up to his Tiny Times blockbuster franchise, one of the most successful in Chinese box office history.
Lionsgate's presence at Cannes will be capped off by the Gala Screening of two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn's drama The Last Face, starring Oscar winners Charlize Theron and Javier Bardem in a love story set against the backdrop of violent unrest in Africa.
The Company noted that its slate is drawn from partnerships with some of the world's leading content companies, including Hasbro, CBS Films, Black Label Media and River Road Pictures, alliances with new creative forces such as China's LeVision Pictures and prestige filmmakers including Sean Penn, J.A. Bayona and Perks of Being A Wallflower director Stephen Chbosky. Lionsgate's London-based international sales team will be spearheading the slate's sales at Cannes.
In addition to its Cannes sales titles, Lionsgate's upcoming release slate includes the tentpole Now You See Me 2, to be released worldwide beginning June 10; Lone Survivor director Pete Berg's action thriller Deepwater Horizon, starring Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez and Dylan O'Brien; La La Land, Oscar-nominated director Damien Chazelle's love letter to Hollywood teaming Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling; Academy Award-winning director Mel Gibson's war drama Hacksaw Ridge, starring Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn and Sam Worthington; the prestigious Lionsgate/Lakeshore Entertainment film American Pastoral, starring Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Connelly and Ewan McGregor in the film adaptation of Philip Roth's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel; and Saban's Power Rangers, based on one of the most widely recognized and celebrated brands in the world.
Lionsgate and Summit label films have grossed over $7 billion at the global box office during the past four years.
