Blue Ridge Numerics Announces CFdesign 2011

CFdesign 2011 provides design engineers with the first Design Study automation embedded in the CAD system

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 1, 2010Blue Ridge Numerics, Inc., the leader in upfront CFD software, today announced the release of CFdesign 2011, and the availability for current CFdesign customers to download it from the Customer Portal. New functionality and major enhancements in CFdesign 2011 equip engineering teams with the power to get more done in 24-hours than with other methods. The highly-automated fluid flow and thermal management decision making processes in CFdesign 2011 provides an effective alternative to costly and time consuming physical testing methods that often lack a complete picture of design performance. CFdesign 2011 provides a platform for engineering companies to gain a competitive advantage and sustain critical growth by better utilizing existing personnel and network resources.

The new CFdesign 2011 collaboration tools effectively connect local and global teams. The knowledge sharing features allow team members ranging from the novice to the power user to have flow and thermal management tools available on-demand, and flexible enough to suit their individual needs.

Using CFdesign 2011, engineering teams will have design performance feedback faster which provides a more direct path to product innovation. This allows for do-it-right-the-first-time designs from concept to validation. CFdesign 2011 delivers more of what engineers need in less time than the physical, or digital, alternatives.

“CFdesign 2011 combines our commitment of bringing best-in-class CFD software to the design engineer that include the tools they need to be successful, with a feature-rich software platform that will also help make the company as a whole successful,” explains Derrek Cooper, CFdesign Product Manager, Blue Ridge Numerics. “We have incorporated features, such as automated mesh sizing with instant preview, a suite of design study automation tools, a model-centric workflow, and Web-based collaboration that will help engineers get more done in 24-hours than ever before. CFdesign 2011 helps design engineers compress the design process while expanding their reach. Engineers no longer have to wish they had more time to run additional simulations leading to innovative products with improved quality -- they do.”

CFdesign 2011 Key Features:

One-Click SimulationNew tools added to CFdesign 2011 simplify and expand the use of simulation to every CAD engineer on the team using CAD-entity groups and Design Study Rules to provide a convenient way to have a simulation setup in one-click and begin exploring flow and thermal design options.

  • CAD-entity groups- Collections of named parts or surfaces that are created in the CAD system utilizing tools on the new CFdesign toolbar. They provide a convenient way to automate the assignment of settings and the building of the design study.
  • Design Study Rules- Associations between a CAD part name, CAD material name or CAD entity group, and a CFdesign setting. Use them to automatically assign settings to frequently recurring CAD components, providing the ability for one-click simulation.

Design Study AutomationWith several new features like a CAD-embedded Design Study Builder and design study templates, engineers can now avoid the déjà vu experience of repeating the same process over and over when setting up a multi-scenario design study from within Inventor, Pro/ENGINEER, and SolidWorks.

  • Design Study Builder- A powerful automation tool that allows for variation of multiple parameters such as materials, flow and thermal conditions as well as design variations driven directly from your design tables inside your CAD system.
  • Design Study Templates – By capturing standard processes, templates give design groups the ability to define standard processes and reduce the need to “start-over” every time.

Remote Solving & Mobile AlertsCFdesign 2011 is built to support the multi-scenario design study process by making it easy to harness all the computational horse power available on your existing network. A new remote solving manager will help you setup and allocate the workload across multiple workstations and alert you via a text message and email when a simulation has started and finished as well as providing solution progress along the way.

  • Remote solving- An important part of the CFdesign Automation Suite that provides the freedom to schedule and run multiple scenarios from a single source, gaining access to all solving engines on your network.
  • Mobile Alerts- Notifications can be sent via email or text messages keeping you informed on the progress of your design study.
